Podcasts offer endless hours of entertainment and enrichment as well as intimate access to personalities and celebrities, all in a conveniently packaged and accessible product. Podcasts can be listened to or watched at any time of day but only Share of Ear© from Edison Research captures what percentage of daily podcast listening occurs in each daypart among Americans 13+.

Q3 2025 Share of Ear data is scheduled for release to subscribers early next week but we’re providing Weekly Insights readers a sneak peek of the data. This brand-new data shows that Americans age 13+ spend 10% of their total daily audio time listening to podcasts. The greatest percentage of podcast listening occurs between 10am and 2pm, accounting for 29% of all daily podcast consumption. Early morning, between 6am and 10am is not too far behind, with 24% of podcast listening occurring within this daypart. In third is midafternoon, 2pm to 6pm, at 21% of all podcast listening time. The percentage of podcast consumption decreases from then on as we head into the evening and overnight hours.

Some people keep very different hours and schedules from the traditional 9-5 workday. Podcast listening does not disappear overnight, as 11% still occurs from 10pm to 2am and an additional 3% happens from 2am to 6am.

Share of Ear captures similar data for several different platform types, ranging from AM/FM Radio to Streaming Music sources. Inquire here to find out more about Americans spend their day with audio through a Share of Ear subscription.
