Since 2014, Edison Research’s Share of Ear® survey has been answering the essential question: “What percent of daily listening time goes to various audio sources?”. The answer as of Q2 2025 can be found in the graph below – the Share of Ear Audio Dial™.
How to read: 23% of all daily audio time listening goes to streaming music.
What might jump out to many is the fact that AM/FM radio accounts for the largest slice of daily audio listening time among Americans 13+. Just over one-third of all daily time spent with audio goes to AM/FM (either over-the-air or streamed). At the same time, combining audio formats that are delivered via the Internet (music streaming, podcasts, YouTube for music and music videos, radio station streams or SiriusXM streams) totals well over 50% of all listening time.
Audio is a dynamic space and Share of Ear has chronicled huge changes in audio consumption patterns over its eleven-year history. New technology, devices, and services have reshaped how Americans engage with audio. Share of Ear clients can see the entire history and look at all the information across a vast range of subgroups.
