Top 50 Most Listened To Podcasts in the U.S. Q2 2022
By Edison Research
Edison Research announces the comprehensive U.S. Top 50 Podcast chart for Q2 2022. This list ranks the 50 biggest podcasts by audience size, based on Edison Podcast Metrics.
The top 10 shows based on measurement from Q3 2021 – Q2 2022 are as follows:
- The Joe Rogan Experience
- Crime Junkie
- The Daily
- This American Life
- My Favorite Murder
- Stuff You Should Know
- The Ben Shapiro Show (up from #9 in Q1)
- Call Her Daddy (up from #10 in Q1)
- Morbid: A True Crime Podcast (enters the top 10)
- Office Ladies (down from #7 in Q1)
Edison Podcast Metrics is the only podcast measurement service that measures the relative audience size and demographics of all podcast networks in the U.S. It is the only measurement based on actual podcast listening, not downloads, and does not require an opt-in from podcast networks.
Although the top six podcasts held on to their rankings since last survey, there are several new entrants to the list. The biggest gainers within the top 15 podcasts are “NPR News Now” (gaining 3 positions, up to #13) and “Smartless” (gaining 4 positions, up to #15 ). Two shows make their first appearance in the top 50: “The Glenn Beck Program” and “Ear Biscuits.” Returning to the top 50 are “Last Podcast On the Left” and “Pardon My Take.” The comedy-horror “Last Podcast on the Left” saw the largest increase among the top 50 shows, going from 60th to 38th. Ear Biscuits, also a comedy podcast, gained strongly as well, perhaps aided by the springtime debut of their Food Network television show.
The Edison Podcast Metrics Top 50 Podcasts of Q1 2022 list is derived from data collected continuously Q2 2021 – Q1 2022, from surveying podcast consumers ages 18 and older in the U.S. Participants indicate which podcasts they listened to in the past week along with a variety of demographic, psychographic, and purchase behavior information. The results are then coded and analyzed to ascertain the genre, network, and sales representation for each podcast. The relative audience size of each podcast network is then calculated and expressed as the percentage of weekly podcast listeners reached by that network. Surveys of 8,000 podcast listeners in the U.S. were conducted Q3 2021 through Q2 2022.
