This week we are proud to announce that Edison Podcast Metrics made its debut in the UK, and we bring you the Top 25 Podcasts in the UK based on audience reach. We also answer some frequently asked questions.
The list below ranks the 25 biggest podcasts based on total weekly audience reach as measured by Edison Podcast Metrics UK. This Q2 2023 ranker is derived from data collected continuously during the second quarter of 2023, from 2,273 weekly podcast consumers ages 15 and older in the UK.
The top three podcasts in the UK based on total weekly audience reach among weekly podcast listeners age 15+ are The Joe Rogan Experience, The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett, and Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster. The complete list of 25 is below.
Q: There are other podcast charts. Why is this one special?
It’s not based on downloads. It is a survey of podcast listening, not an accounting of downloads. Our service does not require podcast networks to opt in. It also doesn’t matter on what platform the listener is consuming the podcast. So Edison Podcast Metrics covers the entire market.
Q: How many podcast listeners are interviewed?
At least 2,000 weekly podcast listeners age 15 and older in the UK are being surveyed each quarter. Participants indicate which podcasts they listened to in the past week, along with a variety of demographic, psychographic, and purchase-behavior information.
Q: How can I see how many people are listening to each podcast?
Detailed data from Edison Podcast Metrics UK is only available to those who subscribe to the dataset. Topline findings, such as the shows with the largest reach, will continue to be released to the public.

Data will be released quarterly
Q: How detailed does the data get?
The dataset includes show-level information on the top podcasts in the UK as well as network reach statistics. Subscribers will have the ability to analyze demographics of podcast listeners, including their purchasing and consumption patterns across a wide range of consumer goods and services.
Q: How long has Edison Podcast Metrics been in the U.S.?
The first Top Podcast Shows ranker in the U.S. was released by Edison Research in November 2019; the company has been tracking podcast consumption in the aggregate since 2006. The same methodology is being employed in the UK as is used in the U.S.
The fourth annual Latino Podcast Listener Report focuses on podcast monetization and advertising potential through the lens of the Latinx consumer. The report debuts in a webinar on Thursday, October 5 at 2 p.m. ET.
