Edison Research’s Share of Ear study has chronicled Spotify’s rise to one of the most popular audio streaming platforms today. Not only has Spotify charted an impressive growth in daily consumption, it has done so among an incredibly full and competitive landscape of other audio options.
As of the latest wave of Share of Ear, Q4 2025, one-quarter of Americans 13+ listen to Spotify in a typical day. Spotify is now the second most popular streaming audio brand, but that wasn’t always the case. Back in 2015, 6% of Americans used Spotify daily, significantly behind other popular online-audio players. Every year since then, Share of Ear has captured an increase in Spotify’s popularity, culminating in a 317% increase from 2015 to 2025. Among all streaming audio platforms, Spotify is now second only to YouTube’s audio-centered offerings in terms of daily reach.
Spotify’s growth has come across both its ad-free and ad-supported tiers. Share of Ear subscribers can see the relative strength of each tier, as well as how Spotify’s growth compares to other players in the audio space. Consider a Share of Ear subscription to better understand changes and opportunities in the U.S. audio landscape.
