Majority of Young TikTok Users Think They Spend “Too Much Time” on it

TikTok is one of the most well-known and popular social media platforms in the United States. Later today, Senior Director of Research, Alex Bargiacchi, and Associate Director of Research, Salma Aly, will present never-before-seen data from Edison Research’s newest custom study, The Infinite Scroll: A TikTok Report. The webinar will go into detail on how often Americans engage with the platform, their perceptions of TikTok and their usage, their feelings about a potential ban, how much they trust the information they see and hear on TikTok, advertisements specifically on the platform, as well as if users feel like they spend too much time on TikTok.
Overall, 42% of U.S. weekly TikTok users believe they spend too much time on the platform. While this is a significant percentage of weekly users, we see this number increase considerably among one of TikTok’s most active audiences; Americans 13-24. Over one-half (54%) of weekly TikTok users between the ages of 13-24 believe they spend too much time on the platform. This equates to approximately 21 million Americans. Weekly users 25-44 and 45+ are both significantly less likely to say they spend too much time on TikTok, at 40% and 27%.
