Controversy, Collaborations Catapult Newcomers in Q3 2023 Top 50 U.S. Podcast List

In this week’s Insights, we are pleased to announce the Top 50 Podcasts in the U.S. based on Q3 2023 reach among weekly podcast listeners age 13+. While the top four shows remain the same as last quarter, there are some surprising newcomers further down the list.

The Q3 2023 ranker from Edison Podcast Metrics is based on surveys of 5,409 weekly podcast listeners age 13+ conducted continuously throughout the third quarter of 2023. Changes from Q2 2023 are noted in the ranker below.

The Top 10 Podcasts in the U.S. for Q3 2023:

  1. The Joe Rogan Experience
  1. Crime Junkie
  1. The Daily
  1. This American Life
  1. This Past Weekend w/Theo Von (new to Top 10
  1. SmartLess (+4
  1. Call Her Daddy (-2
  1. Morbid (+4
  1. Stuff You Should Know (-2
  1. Dateline NBC (-4

One common theme among many of the titles that have made strong moves up the ranker is having had some recent publicity or signing new collaborative agreements. For instance, This Past Weekend with Theo Von makes its Top 10 debut at #5. Von has been visible in the press lately regarding payment disputes against a former distributor and has courted controversy due to an episode featuring Roseanne Barr being removed from YouTube.

After signing a partnership with Spotify to produce exclusive video episodes, Distractable, with Mark Fischbach, Wade Barnes, and Bob Muyskens, breaks into the Top 20 at #15.

No Jumper, receiving media attention for a controversial host and content, and The Always Sunny Podcast, buoyed by tours and live tapingsand a public pause during the writers and actors strikes, both break into the Top 50.

Two pods from the Q2 Top 10 list dropped out of the Top 10 in Q3: The Ben Shapiro Show dropped nine ranks to #17 and Office Ladies dropped from #9 to #20.

This ranker measures reach as a percentage of the weekly podcast listening audience, averaged over the quarter.

The complete list of the Top 50 Podcasts is below.
