The Youth Vote in 2010

By Edison Research

We love to see our exit poll data used to bring clarity and insight to discovering patterns and trends in the American electorate. So, I likely would have posted a link to this new report from the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) anyway. The fact that CIRCLE is based at Tufts University (my undergrad alma mater – go Jumbos!) made it essentially mandatory.

CIRCLE’s new report, Youth Voters in the 2010 Elections, does a great job dissecting how 18-29 year-old Americans voted in this year’s midterm elections, with a nice detailed breakdown using our exit poll data of the patterns and differences between young voters and the remainder of the electorate. In 2010, approximately 21% of eligible 18-29 year-olds went to the polls, which is a marked decline from the last midterm election in 2006, which saw a turnout of about 25%.
