While much has been written about listener dissatisfaction with radio, Hispanic listeners, particularly younger Latinos, remain positive about their choices. That’s one of the key findings of “Latin And Rhythmic Radio: Bridging The Gap,” a new survey from Edison Media Research in conjunction with the industry publication Radio and Records. The survey of 500 Hispanic listeners in 10 markets looks at the rapidly changing Latin radio landscape–particularly the introduction of the reggaeton-based Latin Urban format over the past two years. Among other major findings: while Reggaeton may have cooled over last year, it is currently showing more durability among Latinos than Hip-Hop music is. And the Regional Mexican format remains dominant among Hispanics, partially because of its high-profile morning shows that transcend format.
