Edison Exit-Polls South Carolina Democratic Primary, Calls Obama Winner
Entry by Tom Webster
On Saturday, January 26th, Edison Media Research successfully executed exit polls of the South Carolina Democratic Primary on behalf of the National Election Pool. Edison's exit poll interviewers surveyed over 1900 voters to determine candidate preference, reasons behind their choice, and the relative importance of a variety of issues to these South Carolina voters. Our results showed Barack Obama to be the winner by a sizable margin, followed by Clinton in second and Edwards in third. Turnout for the South Carolina Democratic Primary was estimated to be approximately 530,000 voters, which was significantly more than the estimate of 475,000 who voted in the previous week's Republican Primary
