Popping "Bubbly" At Radio, And A Surprise On The Singles Sales Charts

It was unusual to see the iTunes Music Store singles chart suddenly dominated by the likes of Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly," Feist's "1234" and Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am," songs that might have eluded mass-exposure altogether just a few years ago. In this week's Ross On Radio, Edison Media Research VP of music and programming Sean Ross looks at the implications of three female singer-songwriters in an arena once dominated by rhythmic and Radio Disney product. He also finds that "Bubbly," "The Way I Am," and "1234" are also pretty good illustrations of why having a label and having radio airplay still matter--no matter what you've read elsewhere lately.
