2010 exit poll subscriber information

2010 Election Exit Polls - Information For Subscibers

What We Do

Exit Polls are administered only minutes after voters leave their polling places. The survey results are the best tools available to help understand the motivations and patterns behind the vote.

Exit Polls provide detailed information about:

Who the voters are

Demographic breakdowns by age, gender, ethnicity, education, employment and political identity

What local/regional/national concerns affect voter decisions

Regional distinctions that color results within a state, region or the nation

The Exit Poll data is available for purchase by TV stations, newspapers, Internet sites and other news outlets. Subscriptions to our surveys greatly enhance Election Night coverage for your audience, branding your company as a primary source for the most thorough coverage. It is our goal to make data available to our subscribers with speed, clarity and most importantly accuracy. The polling data is delivered through a secure web application directly to subscribers on Election Day.

A complete list of the races we will be covering in 2010 can be found here.

In addition to our Election Night subscriptions, survey data may be purchased one week after voting at a reduced cost. Data will also be provided to the Roper Center in 2011.

  • Subscriber FAQ

Who can subscribe?

Only news organizations may purchase Exit Poll data on Election Day. One week after the election, the Exit Poll crosstabs are available to anyone interested in purchasing them. Customers in the past have included Academic and/or Non-profit organizations, Commercial or Political Organizations (including political parties) polling firms, consultants, news media, and corporations.

How much does it cost?

Subscriptions for Local, Regional, National and International media outlets are available.   Data can be purchased at the statewide, regional and national level.  Subscription prices vary by type of media outlet and by size of state and media market.  The range is $1000 to $5750 per state.  Results for the National Exit Poll are available for $30,000.

What if I only need the data after Election Day?

Bona fide news organizations may choose to purchase the Exit Poll data on a "delayed" basis. The data is available the morning after Election Day and may not be broadcast, published, or distributed until 2 days after.

One week after the election, the Exit Poll data is available for purchase by non-news organizations including Academic and/or Non-profit organizations, Commercial or Political Organizations (including political parties) polling firms, consultants, news media, and corporations.

In 2011, Edison Research will archive the datasets with The Roper Center and the ICPSR at the University of Michigan. Both organizations may provide the Exit Poll data to their members. Until Edison archives the data, the only way to access the information will be through purchase from Edison.

Doesn't my AP Contract allow me access to the data?

No. The Associated Press only provides the vote count data. Edison Research is the sole provider of Exit Poll information.

Can I get data from the network that owns my station?

No, all local television stations must subscribe directly with Edison.

How do I receive the data on Election Day?

Edison provides a secure, password protected web system that delivers your data clearly and efficiently.

Do you provide training before Election Day?

Yes, we provide Pre-Election Day subscriber training, and a tour of our web-based system to familiarize yourself with what you will be viewing on Election Day.

How do I receive help on Election Day?

Edison provides full online support via a live chat option and offline subscriber support that will help during the data delivery process on Election Day.

How can I have confidence in a race that you call?

Edison has never projected an incorrect winner of a race.

We use a high standard of care in making sure that the information and analysis that we provide news organizations is accurate. All surveys, including exit polls have a sampling error and Edison Research makes certain to take that into account before advising news organizations of the winner in any race.
