An Early Read On Hawaii’s Open Senate Seat

With the recent announcement from Democratic Senator Daniel Akaka that he will not run for re-election in 2012, speculation has focused on former two-term Republican governor Linda Lingle running for his seat. To get a sense of what chance she might have, we took a look at her favorability ratings in the exit poll that Edison Research conducted during 2010 election:Slide1.jpg

Based on our most recent exit poll data, Gov. Lingle will start the race in a difficult position in the Democratic-leaning Hawaii, especially with favorite son President Obama at the top of the ticket helping the eventual Democratic candidate.
